Aborigine Sacred Sites: Ubirr Rock

YOUR FAVORITE AUSSIE STORE

It was July 7th, after traveling for a month, this was to be our last dayĀ in the outback of Australia. I was beginning to feel as though I didn’tĀ want to go back to the states, this felt like home to me.

Our finalĀ stop of the day before traveling to the Alligator River CampgroundĀ  for the night would be at Jabiru, a new uranium mining town inĀ Kakadu National Park.

Uluru

Ayres Rock

TheĀ Australian government is trying to correct some of the mistakes that weĀ Americans created in dealing with our American Indians, they have decidedĀ that if any precious minerals are found on Aboriginal Land, the wealth is

shared with the native peoples. The city of Jabiru is one such instanceĀ of this policy being put into effect. It is a very modern city withĀ beautiful parks and lakes.

TheĀ problem that has been created is that the Aborigines have lived in theĀ bush for 40,000 years and are having trouble adapting to their new way of life,Ā new housing is built for them, but they refuse to live in it, livingĀ instead outside the houses in the back yard.

They have lost their motivationĀ because everything is given to them by the government and their way of life is disappearing, as a resultĀ alcoholism and drugs are a major problem.

AfterĀ dining at one of the manyĀ  outdoor restaurants, we were looking forward toĀ  having the afternoon off and being able spend itĀ swimming in a large lake nearby. It would have been a welcome reliefĀ after spending 6 grueling days traveling the Outback of Australia andĀ sleeping in swags (canvas sleeping bags) stretched out on the ground.

ItĀ was about this time that Mark, our aborigine driver suggested that if we wantedĀ to see one more Aboriginal Site, he would be willing to drive us. Mark was of Irish descent, however he now followed the aborigine waysĀ  In Australia, an aborigine can be any one who is following the aborigine ways, regardless of race, creed or national origin

The aborigines are actually Caucasians and as one of them put it, ” Mate , we have stood out in the sun for forty thousand years, if you did that, you would be black also.”

I actually saw some who had taken their shirts off, they were as white as someone from Sweden.

ManyĀ things began racing through my mind, we had visited many ancient sitesĀ in the last week and I really didnā€™t want to see any more, the swimmingĀ sounded really refreshing, but what the heck, I could go swimming at home next week if I wanted, this was my last day in The Land ofĀ Oz. I wanted to enjoy it to the max. I knew deep down that this was
going to be a very special afternoon, it had been pointed out to me before I left that July 7th would be a day I would never forget.

Traipsing around in the outback for almost a month I had lost track of the time.I was unaware of the date, July 7th,andĀ  as I was about to discover, it would be a highlight in my search for truth.

BesidesĀ that, everyone knowsĀ  all the rivers in Australia are filled withĀ crocodiles and after swimming in those uranium infested waters I wouldĀ probably glow like a porch light all night.

WithĀ that, nine of us boarded the bus for the bumpy, dusty journey of 40 miles of dirtĀ roads that lay ahead. Sitting near the back of the bus I had plenty ofĀ time to contemplate what lay ahead and what it would all mean to me.

We bounced along the dusty road occasionally crossing crocodile infestedĀ creeks and rivers it seemed as though I was going back in time, to aĀ time long forgotten, a time remembered only in the Aboriginal Dreamtime.
I was a little awed at what was going on around me, I could sense andĀ see the other people on the bus, but it was as though I wasnā€™t really aĀ part of their reality and they perhaps werenā€™t part of mine.

The dust from the road filtered into the bus and aĀ  layer of red settled onĀ everyone and everything. At times when passing another vehicle, yesĀ there were others out here, it became so dusty in the bus that we couldĀ barely see the driver. These times contributed to my feeling that we wereĀ passing into another dimension.

ItĀ was at this time that I felt as if I was actually alone with no oneĀ else sharing my experience. I could actually feel my body becomingĀ lighter and lighter and at the same time I was becoming less aware of theĀ surroundings around me.

We were passing through sacred lands, and the warning not to enter withoutĀ permission of the tribal elders continuously entered my mind.

Ā

MyĀ thoughts were interrupted by a sudden jerk and a screeching of brakes,Ā the bus was coming to a stop, we had reached our destination, UbirrĀ Rock, the home of Lightning Man, a very powerful figure from the
Aboriginal Dreamtime

Spiritual Lessons in the Out Back

Your AUSSIE Superstore

NearingĀ the end of our month long walkabout in the outback of Australia, ourĀ bus was traveling northward towards our destination for the evening,Ā Cooinda. Located in Kakadu Wildlife Park, Cooinda contains a largeĀ billybongĀ or small lake. Billybongs are created by the monsoonal rainsĀ that are common in the BackOā€™Beyond Ā during the rainy season. They holdĀ large reservoirs of water that the wildlife thus survive on during theĀ long droughts often experienced during the winter months.

AsĀ the months wear on, the billabongs become smaller and smaller as theĀ water is not only consumed by the various forms of wildlife including crocodilesĀ but also lost during evaporation. Dusk was rapidlyĀ descending upon us, suddenly, the smell of hot metal began toĀ infiltrate the interior of the bus.

one life

ThisĀ could only mean one thing, and it wasnā€™t something we wanted to face atĀ this time. Our bus engine was overheating, being miles fromĀ civilization, this was not a good thing. Pulling over to the side of theĀ dirt road, our aboriginal driver exited the bus and Ā raised the hood toĀ determine the damage.

KnowingĀ a little about engines, I assumed that if the engine wasnā€™t totallyĀ destroyed, it soon would be. The driver announced that we should justĀ take a break, take a few photos and the bus would be ready to run againĀ as soon as it cooled off. Iā€™m thinking, Fat Chance!

AsĀ the sun settled over the horizon, the bus started and we were again onĀ our way. Ā This canā€™t last forever! Two more days before we arrive inĀ Darwin, can we make it?

CrossingĀ several crocodile infested streams we finally arrive at our campground.Ā I asked the driver if they were going to send another bus, stupidĀ question. From Where? He gave me a nod, but I felt the nod meant, no.

SinceĀ we were due in Darwin on Saturday and my flight wasnā€™t until Sunday, IĀ decided to not worry about the bus, I had an extra day to hitchhike ifĀ need be, and by this point in time I began to realize everything wouldĀ work out perfectly, so there was no need to worry. Sit back, learn andĀ enjoy, good advice for life no matter what the situation.

IĀ realized long ago the aborigines had a connection with the universeĀ most of us donā€™t have and their insight can carry one through the mostĀ extreme situations. Needless to say , we arrived at Darwin airport justĀ Ā two hours before our comrades of the past week were scheduled to flyĀ back home, plenty of time, and the bus is still running.

AfterĀ dropping us off at our hotel, the remaining passengers were going onĀ an additional tour , bidding them farewell, we assumed we would neverĀ see them again. Ā A friend and I decided to go to the beach, hang aroundĀ and get some superb sunset photos , return to the hotel and go out toĀ dinner with our remaining group.

ArrivingĀ back at the hotel just after sunset, we were astonished to find ourĀ fellow travelers waiting on us, they had gotten just a few minutes fromĀ the hotel when the bus blew up.

ItĀ turned out to be quite an evening, since the trip was cut a day short,Ā our driver decided to spring for dinner. after enjoying dinner at aĀ Indian restaurant, complete with very expensive wine, ( we decided toĀ splurge on the wind since the driver was buying dinner), we migrated toĀ the Sportsmanā€™s Bar located on the beach in Darwin. A night of dancing,
jitterbugging and comradely ensured.

Arriving back at our hotel about 3 AM, it would be a short night, our flight back to Cairns was at 6.

ItĀ had been a powerful lesson, the one that teaches us that we alreadyĀ know what we have just been taught. Each of us has the knowledge inside us that will guide us through life, all we need to do is let it shine
through.

Enlightenment

At this period of time in the history of man, there is probably more individual searching being done into the theories behind the origin of the human race, what happens after death, the possibility of life on other planets, and what our relationship is to these life forms, if they do exist. There are millions of people who are questioning the existence of God, who he really is, and what is my relationship with him? Is he someone who mysteriously floats around on a cloud watching and judging us from above like some bigger than life Santa Claus, or is he, like many of the esoteric science’s claim, a part of our inner Self, whom we have constant contact with, someone whom we and everything in the universe are connected and are thus one? Each of us in our own way is experiencing what God is, and thus we are each a part of God, thus we are God! This book is a brief account of my search for my own truth as I know it today, everything stated actually happened, according to my own perception. It has been an exciting search, at times very frustrating, very rewarding, and above all, very fulfilling. My main purpose in writing this book is to show that anyone, even a bashful unfamous country boy can have these awakenings, you donā€™t have to be rich or well-known to find your connection to Divine Source.

Available in both PAPERBACK and EBOOK formats.

Aboriginal Dream Time

Aboriginal Dream Time

The Australian Aboriginal Dream-Time can be confusing to some. It is actually a compilation of not only all their beliefs and history, but also of what is to come.

Aborigine boy

Your favorite AUSSIE store

The Dream Time has different meanings, sometimes if you are looking into the past, you are using memory, and when looking into the future you are using imagination. They believe that we are spiritual scientists and are only “dreaming” this life.

We are all born with a bank of energy. All energy, including money doesn’t disappear, it just changes form. All travel and activity uses up energy, time and money, when we run out of time and energy, the body dies.

As in Christian belief, as well as many other religions, they believe that in the beginning, the earth was flat and void. The aborigines believe all of being was created by the Rainbow Serpent, thus the Rainbow Serpent, along with other spiritual beings created everything .

Instead of settling the earth, the spiritual beings dreamed it up, thus we aren’t residents of earth, we are dreaming our reality and we create everything in our reality by dreaming it first. When you go on a journey, you first dream it up. Then the dream becomes reality by actually doing the task.

When you travel to Cairns for example, the time, travel and money is just a dream. We are all born with a bank of energy, when all your energy is spent converting it to time, money, etc. your physical body dies, it’s like a car that runs out of gas. The physical body can no longer support a soul. This lifetime, or “Dreaming” thus ends and the soul energy or spirit that is youĀ  changes form.

Aborigines are Caucasians and their existence have been traced to Iraq,Ā Iran ,Ā Ā Malaysia, etc.Ā  The term Aborigine has nothing to do with color or physical features, it relates to a belief, it’s the same as being Christian,.If you follow their way of life, you are an Aborigine, regardless of skin color. In modern times many aborigines who wear shirtsĀ will have a completely white skin under the shirt. When asked why they were black and we were white, one replied,”Mate, if you had stood out in the sun for 40,000 years, you would be black too.”Ā

To them there only two types of people, aborigines and the rest. Anyone can study their ways and become an aborigine, declare such to the Australian government and all the entitlements afforded to them can be received by anyone.

The Australian Aboriginal Negroid had been in Australia for at least three civilizations, possibly for as long as 200,000 years, however, there is no scientific evidence the present day aborigines have been here longer than 12,000 years. Which could possibly indicate that they cameĀ  after the “Great Flood”, or that science is wrong. Science has been wrong before.

Much of their history and beliefs are displayed in rock art. Just like modern day art, only the author knows the true meaning. It tells the story of some happening or event, and everyone assumes that every painting is 20,000 years old, this just isn’t true, some could only be a few days old, and this being the case, it has been compared to modern day graffiti.

Boomerangs

Boomerangs

Boomerrangs

One of the more unique and interesting toolsĀ  found in the outback of Australia, boomerangs served a very useful purpose.
ThereĀ  are many different sizes, types and shapes, depending on the culture, geographic location and need of the hunter. The type of prey would also determine what kind of weapon would be needed.

Your favorite AUSSIE store

Boomerangs were used to kill everything from birds to large animals such as kangaroos. The more popular design of boomerang, the one most often seen in movies was the most aerodynamic and looks like the wing of an aircraft. It was designed to primarily kill birds while in flight. It was fashionedĀ  so it would return to the person who threw it, thus eliminating the need to chase after it. Also many times the birds would be flying over water, so if the target was missed and the boomerang didn’t return, it eliminated the need for the hunter to swim in crocodile infested waters in order to retrieve his favorite weapon.

True, if the bird was killed or wounded,(and since they didn’t have a bird dog), the hunter would have to brave the elements to retrieve his prey, but at least there was a reward for risking his life.

The larger boomerangs were designed to kill larger land animals, thus they resembled a club , They didn’t come back, as they traveled along the ground, and stopped only when coming in contact with the animal in question, or struck some other object, such as a rock or tree.

The aborigines were quite professional in this respect, not only in designingĀ but using the boomerang. The target in question was more often struck and killed than not. Many boomerangs had markings indicating the tribe or even the person to whom the boomerang belonged, thus making it easier to recover if there was a question of ownership.

Although the boomerang is thought to be a product of the natives of Australia, they have actually been found in such places as Poland, Egypt, and among artifacts of Native American Navajo Indians. Dating back over 10,000 years, the boomerang has been aĀ  needed and useful tool for the Australian Aborigine .

Today, the Aborigines are losing many of the talents they once had, due to modernization these talents aren’t in as much demand. CorroboreesĀ or songfests are often held where many of the old ways and dances are practiced, but many of the customs of the aborigines are being lost forever, at the songfests, many times white Europeans win the boomerang throwing and other once native competitions.
