The Greatest Threat to America

Written by: Gary Wonning

The biggest concern among thinking Americans today is the threat of terrorism, more  especially home grown terrorism.

While terrorism  is a major threat to our safety and wellbeing there is another threat even more dangerous.

We have become our own worst enemy. Our freedom and prosperity has created an environment  that promotes our own demise.

In our rush to create a society with many luxuries of life we have forgotten what is important .

While our technical  advances are unequaled in history, we have neglected our spiritual  foundation.

We are our own homegrown terrorists. We resort to drugs and alcohol so we don’t have to face up to who we are or the truth of our existence. Some statistics state 75% of the American population is on painkillers, and

People over 75 average being on at least 5 prescription drugs. This is alarming! Instead of relying on our inner guidance and natural healing when  did we begin to want quick cures that many times create more illnesses than they could ever cure?

Often times a little exercise and proper diet would alleviate an health issues we may have.

Instead of working on core issues and getting to the heart of the issue, we often pop a pill or illegal drug and think that will solve our problems . This only makes the problem worse, now, not only did we not solve the initial issue, we have become addicted to drugs and or alcohol.

Somewhere and somehow we have forgotten what is important in life.

I remember growing up, God and church was the foundation of our life. Everything centered around our religious values. People then, like now weren’t perfect, but they tried to live by a code of ethics instilled by their ancestors. Even the most ruthless individuals had a line they wouldn’t cross, even to them some behavior just wasn’t acceptable.

There was honor among thieves, now there is honor among no one, the only thing that matters is instant gratification and a feel good result.

Growing up there were very few people who didn’t go to church at least occasionally, now most don’t go and in many areas churches are closing.

Most no longer have anything to believe in, they have placed their trust in an unstable foundation, either fame, fortune, or drugs. When that foundation finally collapses and it will, there is no rock for them to lean on.

People are floundering aimlessly in life, worshiping one false prophet after another. Instead of going within for answers, they are seeking something outside themselves for gratification.

In this environment, can we wonder why our society has tumbled in decay like it has? Can we wonder why the Islamic faith is growing? For right or wrong, they haven’t abandoned their God, we have abandoned ours.

If and when we once again discover our true values and spiritual foundation, the threat of terrorism will be no more.

church and state

There has been much debate over the years about what the founding fathers meant about the separation of church and state. In recent times there has been much disinformation about how they actually believed, especially George Washington. In this short Ebook the author tries to explain how they actually felt.

There was a little old lady, who every morning. stepped onto
her front porch, raised her arms to the sky, and shouted:
“PRAISE THE LORD!”

One day an atheist moved into the house next door. He
became irritated at the little old lady. Everymorning he’d
step onto his front porch after her and yell:
“THERE IS NO LORD!”

Time passed with the two of them carrying on this way
every day. One morning, in the middle of winter, the little
old lady stepped onto her front porch and shouted:
“PRAISE THE LORD! Please Lord, I have no food and I
am starving, provide for me, oh Lord!

The next morning she stepped onto her porch and
there were two huge bags of groceries sitting there.
“PRAISE THE LORD!” she cried out. “HE HAS PROVIDED
GROCERIES FOR ME!”

The atheist neighbor jumped out of the hedges and shouted:
“THERE IS NO LORD. I BOUGHT THOSE GROCERIES!!”

The little old lady threw her arms into the air and shouted:
“PRAISE THE LORD! HE HAS PROVIDED ME WITH
GROCERIES AND MADE THE DEVIL PAY FOR THEM!

The Punk

Wanna Bet?

The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen. After several minutes, the older worker had had enough.

“Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is,” he said.

“Like what?” the punk replied.

“I will bet a week’s wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won’t be able to wheel back,” the experienced man said.

All the other older men looked on with a mixture of “uh oh” and admiration on their faces, not sure what was up his sleeve. But that didn’t faze the braggart.

“You’re on, old man,” the strapping young man replied. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, “All right, punk. Get in.

Rural Areas Conservative, Urban Areas Liberal

There is becoming a great divide in America. More and more people are moving off the land and into large cities, many times living in small apartments or condos and very seldom if ever  having to opportunity to reconnect with their agrarian roots.

As a result they are losing their connection with mother earth. In the process their whole line of thinking changes. Living in a urban environment naturally makes one more dependent on government services. In the process they give up their desire for freedom and the chance to make their own decisions concerning important choices in their life.

This is a gradual process and many times they don’t even notice or care until suddenly they become someone who could no longer survive on their own. Soon they have become slaves to the government and no longer free.

There is a big difference between relying on someone and become a slave to them. In an agrarian culture , neighbors rely on neighbors, sometimes out of necessity, but they are still independent and can fend for themselves, it’s a two way street, you help me , I help you. That makes it personal.

Sell Art Online

In an urban society, neighbors seldom know each other, they live next door for years and have never met. When someone needs help, they call a non-caring government agency who have sterile rules and regulations to go by.  There is nothing personal about it, people soon begin to feel as if they are living as isolationists and have no one they can personally turn to.

Soon this turns to frustration and anger, many times it is unnoticed by even the most astute, they think it has to be this way. Their values slowly change and they slowly become more dependent on a government agency who doesn’t have anyone’s interest in mind but their own self interests.

As this slowly occurs over the years and a few generations come and go, the two groups develop different customs, beliefs and values. As the cities grow, they outnumber the people living on the land and slowly the values and ethics that made a country great disappear until many think the people living on the land are extremists and their opinions are reduced to be thought of as archaic and old fashioned.

This is how great societies die and wither away.

Change America

Growing up on a Farm

In my opinion, there isn’t anything like growing up on a farm, even though the work was hard, money was nonexistent, and often times we went for periods of time without some of the so called necessities of life, life was good.

Even as a small child , I was expected to work, I remember driving a tractor when I was only three years old, and milking a cow when I was about five. I asked my mom for something from the store, she handed me a milk stool and a bucket and said that if I wanted it , I would have to work for it. The money earned was a nickel, enough to buy what I wanted.

My allowance always had work attached to it, there were no free rides and no self pity  was allowed. Even though we were poor, we never thought of ourselves as victims, we were just glad to be able to earn a living and be free.

The people we knew who lived in town or the city  were better off financially than we were, but I actually felt sorry for them because they didn’t have the life we had, the children didn’t have a creek to play in, they weren’t able to catch tadpoles, fish or hunt.

I could go outside at night and catch fireflies and see a million stars. I had cows and other animals I could enjoy every day. Many times, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, snakes and many other animals would be seen strolling across our yard.

We were free do do what we wanted , without some government bureaucrat telling us we needed a license or get  permission from someone.

We raised our own food, both in the garden and on the farm. Our meat came from the livestock we raised and milked, we became accustomed to eating the cows we had milked for years or a young calf. Our cattle all had a name,we often jokingly said we were eating our friends.

Everything on the farm had to carry it’s own weight, the family dog had to know how to herd cattle and the cats better be catching mice. No free rides.

The work was hard, but we didn’t feel like it was work, it was just what we did. Eating fresh meat, eggs, milk and vegetables made it all worthwhile.

Life was good, if more kids had that life today, how many problems society faces would go away?

Wisdom from days gone bye.

Government Benefits

In today’s world many people think someone owes them something. Many seem to think money grows on trees and if the government pays for something ,it doesn’t cost anything and no one has to pay for it.

As a result they believe everything a bureaucrat tells them and  some how believe a politician actually has their welfare in mind and actually cares about them. After all these years of broken promises and many times outright lies, I’m not sure how anyone can actually believe it when a politician who is running for public offices tells you they have your best interests in mind.

Don’t ever think the government is doing something for you, they aren’t. They only have their own interests in mind, their only concern is getting reelected again.

Why would you want to give someone else the opportunity  to spend your hard earned money? Do you think they are smarter than you and do you actually believe they know more about what you want or need than you do?

Would you go into a restaurant and give the waiter your wallet and tell him to just bring you something, and in the process, take out as much as they want for a tip?

Of course you wouldn’t , so why do you turn control of your finances over to a far off bureaucrat in a hideen office in Washington D.C.?

In reality, there is no such thing as a government benefit, it is just a transfer of money from one person to another, with a tithe going to someone we don’t know, someone some people think as  a god, nothing could be farther from the truth.

It benefits no one but them.

Farm Life in the Fifties

Farm Life in the 1950s

There was a time when life was a lot different and a lot simpler. Growing up on a farm in the 50’s and early 60’s,we didn’t have all the modern conveniences of today.
We may not have had all the comforts of life, but we did have something that is missing today. We had neighbors that actually talked to each other and helped when times were tough. We shared tools with our neighbors and when our  farm was sold in 1963,we had shared the tools for so long, we didn’t know who some of the tools actually belonged to. Three days after Christmas in 1950, our house caught fire and suffered so much damage it couldn’t be lived in. Insurance was unheard of in those days ,so all the neighbors joined in , tore down what remained of the old house, and built us a new one, all of this during one of the coldest
Indiana winters ever.

We were taught to be self reliant, at the beginning of my junior year in high school, my dad suffered a back injury and was bed fast for  over a year. We never asked for help, instead my seven year old brother and I pitched in and did all the farm work , milking 30 head of cows twice a day and doing all the other necessary work to sustain the family.
The following spring, dad was still disabled, so I put out all the crops including hauling manure, plowing , tilling the soil and planting the corn and soybeans. The farm was too small to sustain our cattle, our pastures resembled a pool table, hence we were buying feed for them, because of all the economic problems , it was becoming harder and harder to purchase dinner for the cattle.
We had decided to get out of the farming business and the day we ran out of feed for the cattle, the cattle  were sold in the afternoon. Divine Providence.
Everything always works out for the best.Soon dad’s injuries healed, and he got a job in town , the farm was sold the next year.
I really didn’t mind, in fact it was a challenge, I was only glad to be able to help my parents who never had an easy life, it was my way of paying them back for all they had done for my brother and myself.
I will always appreciate my childhood days, living on the farm was the best.

Redneck IQ Test

From a buddy who grew up in West Virginia. He sent it with the
comment, “I am sick and tired of hearing about how dumb people are in
the South. I challenge any so-called smart Yankee to take this exam!”

1. Calculate the smallest limb diameter on a persimmon tree that will support a 10 pound possum.

2. Which of these cars will rust out the quickest when placed on blocks in your front yard?
(A) ’65 Ford Fairlane
( ’69 Chevrolet Chevelle, or
(C) ’64 Pontiac GTO.

3. If your uncle builds a still which operates at a capacity of 20
gallons of shine produced per hour, how many car radiators are required
to condense the product?

4. A woodcutter has a chain saw which operates at 2700 RPM. The
density of the pine trees in the plot to be harvested is 470 per acre.
The plot is 2.3 acres in size. The average tree diameter is 14 inches.
How many Budweisers will be drunk before the trees are cut down?

5. If every old refrigerator in the state vented a charge of R-12
simultaneously, what would be the percentage decrease in the ozone
layer?

alcohol

In today’s world, many resort to abusing drugs and alcohol, why are so many becoming addicted and not only destroying their lives but the lives of others around them as well?

6. A front porch is constructed of 2×8 pine on 24-inch centers with a
field rock foundation. The span is 8 feet and the porch length is 16
feet. The porch floor is 1-inch rough sawn pine. When the porch
collapses, how many hound dogs will be killed?

7. A man owns a Tennessee house and 3.7 acres of land in a hollow
with an average slope of 15%. The man has five children. Can each of his
grown children place a mobile home on the man’s land and still have
enough property for their electric appliances to sit out front?

8. A 2-ton truck is overloaded and proceeding 900 yards down a steep
slope on a secondary road at 45 MPH. The brakes fail. Given average
traffic conditions on secondary roads, what is the probability that it
will strike a vehicle with a muffler?

9. A coal mine operates a NFPA Class 1, Division 2 Hazardous Area.
The mine employs 120 miners per shift. A gas warning is issued at the
beginning of the 3rd shift. How many cartons of unfiltered Camels will
be smoked during the shift?

10. At a reduction in the gene pool variability rate of 7.5% per
generation, how long will it take a town which has been bypassed by the
Interstate to breed a country-western singer?

I betcha thought that there test was gonna be an easy one, didn’t ya?
It’s okay if’n ya didn’t do all that well. Just goes to show
ya…There’s a hole heap of things that big city book-learning don’t
prepare ya for in this life.

As an added bonus for taking the “Redneck IQ Test“, here’s some
southerly advice that may come in handy down the road a piece: Next time
you are too drunk to drive, walk to the nearest pizza shop and place an
order. When they go to deliver it, catch a ride home with em.
