Growing up in the 1950s life was certainly different than today,  as a child, I had much more freedom than the kids of today.

We weren’t continuously watched over every minute of the day, the same dangers were there for kids as in the current time, but parents were more likely to let their kids roam the neighborhoods without fear of them getting into harm, and if they acquired a skinned up knee, the knee would heal, it was just a battle scar of growing up.

No worries.

I received a bike at a very early age, I was barely tall enough to reach the pedals, but that didn’t stop me from riding on the gravel road in front of the farm where I grew up.

As I grew braver, taller, and more adventuresome. my riding range expanded and soon I could be seen riding my bike a couple of miles from home.

Soon I was able to ride  a couple of miles to the only asphalt road in the area, what a treat to rid on a smooth surface and not have to worry about the larger stones in the gravel  road creating havoc with my diving abilities.

While riding on this black top road one hot summer day, I noticed a small hole in the pavement.  The freezing and thawing from winter to summer would cause the asphalt to expand and shrink, thus sometimes holes or bulges would appear in the surface of the road.

Stopping my bike , I ventured over to peer into the hole, my imagination began to run wild, the cavern seemed endless.  Things often appear larger to a child’s mind than to an adult.

Although the hole was only a few inches deep, I could only imagine what lie at the bottom of that endless pit. I couldn’t even imagine what may lie at the bottom of that bottomless abyss.

I have found the same to be true in Masonry.

As we study masonry and dive deeper and deeper into the ancient mysteries, it is hard to imagine the mystery every ending, if it does indeed end. 

We seem to uncover one truth, and that discovery just raises more and more questions. 

Does it ever end?

It never ends. Just like life, our quest for truth is endless and eternal.

For us to advance as the human race, we need to combine the spiritual knowledge of those that came before us, not only that of the ancients but the knowledge of our direct ancestors as well, with the technical knowledge we have today for us to propel into the twenty-first century and beyond.

There is often, according to which train of thought you follow, there a dispute about Moses’s heritage; he could have been a Semite, a Hyksos, or an Egyptian. Regardless of whether he was a Semite, a Hyksos, or an Egyptian.

He led his people out of Egypt and much of what the Hebrews knew and believed came from this event.

Moses was learned in the wisdom of the Egyptians, he would have known of the great secrets and knowledge of Seqenenre, and the secrets of resurrecting a new king.

Seqenenre was an Egyptian legend that corresponds closely with the legend of Hiram Abiff in Masonic Lore. 

Undoubtedly, this made a great impression on Moses and he would have relayed it to the ruling class and it eventually became the secret rite of passage for making a new king in the land of Israel and was passed onto the royal line of David.

Harmony reigns in the Natural Law and order of the universe as well as among the trinities recognized by different belief systems throughout history. Pike admonishes us that we do not conceive of or, much less, create moral truths. They are constituted everywhere and are imposed upon us. It remains for us to search for, discover and inculcate these Truths.

The Downfall of the Knights Templars

After their first journey to the Temple Mount and after returning to France, the Knights Templars suddenly became very wealthy and as time went on, became more and more prosperous. They eventually became wealthier than the church, which ultimately led to their falling out of favor with the pope, who then had them drummed up on false charges, arrested them, and eventually executed all they could capture.

Their Grand Master Jacques DeMolay was burned over a fiery pit in 1314.

In turn the pope confiscated all their vast wealth.

Many of the Knights who survived then escaped to Scotland and freedom.

Throughout history, the masonic order has had an enormous influence on history.

The Egyptians Knew How To Build A Society

 

The Egyptians were able to predict the flooding of the Nile River and in so doing plan the best time to plant their crops. Because of the ability to recognize and harness something of regularity, they were able to lay the foundations of their economy and their empire.

They were the first to unite what might otherwise be thought of as independent city states, and by doing so, impacted our own concept of what a nation should be.

Their model created the idea of a nation as a society with defined boundaries, currency, and government. The combination of those three elements allows an economic growth trajectory that is ultimately greater than the sum of its parts.

Architecture is the most famous legacy of the Egyptian culture. The Egyptians were the first to employ the use of architecture on a massive scale for purposes other than defense or shelter. Their use of architecture for religious and socio/political reasons has been monumental in the future evolution of all global cultures.

With regularity, they realized that stones make buildings, and buildings make cities, the cities make nations and nations make societies.

Because they saw how buildings could shape the way in which people interact with each other and their leadership, the Egyptians were the first to purposely plan and design buildings and cities for influencing the people of a nation.

Using the Egyptian idea of magic, which is to influence something by indirect means, architecture was the ultimate magic by which to influence society.

Many of the rituals of the masonic lodge were practiced in Ancient Egypt.

The Knights Templars and the Qumran

The Masonic Influence on World History

The most important connection between the Qumran Essenes, the Knights Templars and the Freemasonry is they all focused on the rebuilding of King Solomon’s Temple.

Soon they were given a constitution by the church and became an official organization within the church, they were then given the right to wear their own mantles, which were pure white, and they were then not only knights, but monks as well.

Not only needing funds but extra workers as well, they were then forced to take in new recruits, The new recruits were probationary for the first year, had to be of noble birth, born in wedlock, and be free of any vow, much like the vows of masonry today.

Another similarity of masonic practice, sheepskin was the only allowed form of decoration. They were required to wear sheepskin breeches beneath their outer garments.

It was to be a symbol of innocence and chastity. The sheepskin was never removed, not even for bathing.

So Now You Are A Mason

My brother,  you have reached the sublime degree of a master mason, you have memorized all the degrees, or you soon will, and will be presented your apron or badge of a mason.

You have been presented with a holy bible and performed all the necessary obligations to enable you to walk and act as such.

What’s next?

Just as in school, in order to advance, we commit our lessons to memory and then move on to the next lesson, it is only after we graduate that  we begin to understand all that has been taught us.

So, it is in masonry, you still have much to learn, even though you have been presented the working tools of a mason, it is your responsibility to advance in your learning of all the hidden mysteries of masons in  masonry.

In order to accomplish that, you need to understand what it means to you, that understanding can only come by not only attending lodge, but also by  learning on your own, outside the lodge.

I think you will find it will take the rest of your life to even remotely understand it.

My brother, many think that once they learn the degrees, there is no other reason to come back to lodge, that is far from the truth, there is always much to learn from our fellow brethren, and much we can learn from you.

We want your input and knowledge to enable this lodge and masonry to continue to grow and be the guiding light for humanity it has always been.

And  just in case your spouse and kids get tired of sitting home alone, we have plenty for them to do also.

In this day and age, masonry and its appendant bodies are needed more than ever, please join us and come back often.

We have much work to do.

The Hyksos Occupied Egypt

In Egyptian history, the masonic legend began at a time when the Hyksos occupied Egypt. They had overcome Egypt because they were more warlike than the Egyptians were, the Egyptians were more trusting and easy going, naive in the ways of the world, they let the Hyksos overtake them and assimilate into their lives.

That seems to be the ongoing story of humanity, a lesser advanced civilization infiltrates an advanced society, slowly assimilating into their society until suddenly, they overcome the populace and soon the original culture is lost, it continues even today.

The Egyptians Came From Somewhere

Even though the Egyptians are most noted for their pyramids, the legacy of this people goes way beyond their magnificent structures and architecture.

Their culture has influenced mankind since the earliest of times, however, their culture which seems to have sprung out of thin air, in turn had to be influenced by an earlier civilization, possibly the city builders of Sumer.

Their vast knowledge had to come from somewhere, their culture suddenly sprang forth and built tremendous structures that are the marvel even today, it had to come from somewhere to have the knowledge they suddenly displayed.

Ancient Egypt and the Morning Star Venus

As time passes more and more is being discovered concerning the ancient craft of Masonry.

The ancients based much of their knowledge and beliefs on astronomy, in particular, Orion, the star Sirius, and the planet Venus.

Even the giant pyramid of Cheops, located on the Egyptian plain, high above Cairo, was constructed in the very same pattern as the three stars in Orion’s belt and certain air chambers in the pyramid point to Venus as it would have been positioned in the sky in earlier times.

The Egyptian hieroglyph for the morning star was the same five-pointed star used to represent the five points of Masonic fellowship in the third degree.
