Light House: Presque Isles

Presque Isles Light House

 Located just north of Long Lake on Highway 23 , Presque Isles Light House sits just off the highway  down a short gravel road.

 

About Three miles north of Long Lake and twelve miles north of Alpena, Michigan. The site offers a welcome break when traveling to and from the Mackinac Bridge.

 

Not only one of the oldest light houses in the state of Michigan, it is the tallest one climbable by the public. Open from mid-May until mid-October, it is advertised to be open from eleven AM until 5 PM. The day we were there it closed at three -thirty, hence we didn’t get inside.

 

Luckily, we were there late in the afternoon and were able to catch  the rays of the sun as it descended in the sky, allowing for some beautiful photos.

 

The park is set on a ninety-nine acre lot, which affords the opportunity for the country to provide some small but beautiful hiking trails.

 

 

A beautiful spot, I could have spent much longer there.

The Mackinac Point Light House

 Mackinac Point Lighthouse , one of the many wonders of northern Michigan.

Even before the coming of European explorers, the Straits of Mackinac were a significant hazard to water-borne travelers. Consequently, before lighthouses, the   Ojibwa lit the shore with fires.

In the early 19th century, Traffic was increasing from Lake Huron . In 1829 the Bois Blanc Light House was constructed to both guide mariners in making the westerly turn and to warn them of shoals and shallows surrounding the island.

The first light was  a steam-powered fog signal which was replaced with an electric light in October 1892.

 

 

 

Today, it houses the usual gift shop and tours are available to climb the tower.

 

 

Climb the tower and breathe in the spectacular view .

Generations of visitors and light house keepers have enjoyed the spectacular views and the wonder of the area.

As you step  inside the lighthouse, many sights and sounds await you,hear the Victrola play pre-World War I tunes in a period-styled sitting room.

You can even explore nighttime navigation and Great Lakes’ shipwrecks.

Sturgeon Point Harrisville Michigan

 

Sturgeon Point, Michigan

Built in 1869 ,Sturgeon Point Light House is a lighthouse on Port Huron in Haynes township, Alcona county near Harrisville Michigan. It’s construction is a prime example of Cape Cod type light houses that were built on the Great Lakes.

 

The location is roughly halfway between Alpena’s Thunder Bay Island and the northern entry to Saginaw Bay. Importantly, this point sits atop a formidable reef that is an imminent hazard to navigation.

Located in Sturgeon Point Scenic Site, a Michigan state park,the lighthouse is maintained and operated by the Alcona Historical Society,a private organization that funds the maintenance and operation with few public funds.

The light house is normally open during the summer , but it closes daily at 3 PM, so be sure to go early. There is a small fee, used to cover liability insurance. 

Along with the small admission fee, a strawberry social is held at the Bailey School every June to help cover the costs of operation.

  

 

 

Be sure to spend a few minutes enjoying the scenery, you will be glad you did.

Love the Presence within by Rhonda Byrne

The truth is that the Universe has been answering you all of your life, but you cannot receive the answers unless you are aware.  Be aware of everything around you, because you are receiving the answers to your questions in every moment of the day.  The channels those answers can come through are unlimited.  They could be delivered in the form of a newspaper headline that attracts your attention, or overhearing someone speaking, or a song on the radio, or signage on a truck passing by, or receiving a sudden inspiration.  Remember to remember, and become aware!

I have found on my own life and in others’ lives that we do not think well of ourselves or love ourselves completely.  To not love ourselves can keep what we want from us.  When we don’t love ourselves, we are literally pushing things away from us.

Everything we want, whatever it may be, is motivated by love.  It is to experience the feelings of love in having those things–youth, money, the perfect person, job, body, or health.  To attract the things we love we must transmit love, and those things will appear immediately.

The catch is, to transmit the highest frequency of love, you must love yourself, and that can be difficult for many.  If you focus on the outside and what you see now, you may trip yourself up, because what you see and feel about you now is the result of what you used to think.  If you don’t love you, the person you see now is likely to be full of faults that you have found in yourself.

To love yourself fully, you must focus on a new dimension of You.  You must focus on the presence inside of You.  Take a moment and sit still.  Focus on feeling the life presence inside you.  As you focus on the presence within, it will begin to reveal itself to You.  It is a feeling of pure love and bliss, and it is perfection.  That presence is the perfection of You.  That presence is the real You.  As you focus on that presence, as you feel, love, and praise that presence, you will love yourself fully, quite possibly for the first time in your life.

Any time you look at yourself with critical eyes, switch your focus immediately to the presence within, and its perfection will reveal itself to You.  As you do this, all imperfections that have manifested in your life will dissolve, because imperfections cannot exist in the light of this presence.  Whether you want to regain perfect eyesight, dissolve disease and restore well-being, turn poverty into abundance, reverse aging and degeneration, or eradicate any negativity, focus on and love the presence within you and perfection will manifest.

The absolute truth is that the “I” is perfect and complete;

the real “I” is spiritual and can therefore never be less than

perfect; it can never have any lack, limitation, or disease
