In today’s world, many resort to abusing drugs and alcohol, why are so many becoming addicted and not only destroying their lives but the lives of others around them as well?
A businessman walks into a bank in New York
City
and asks for the loan officer. He says he is going
to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to
borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will
need some kind of security for such a loan. So the
businessman hands over the keys to a BMW
parked on the street in front of the bank.
Everything checks out, and the bank agrees to accept
the car as collateral for the loan. An employee drives
the BMW into the bank’s underground garage and
parks it there.
Two weeks later, the businessman returns, repays
the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41.
The loan officer says, “We are very happy to have
had your business, and this transaction has worked
out very, nicely, but we are a little puzzled.
While you were away, we checked you out and found
that you are a multimillionaire. Why would you bother
to borrow $5,000? “The businessman replied, “Where else in New York
can I park my car for two weeks for 15 bucks?
Feudalism – You have two cows. Your lord
takes some of the milk.
Â
Fascism – You have two cows. The government
takes both, hires
you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.
Communism – You have two cows. Your neighbors
help take care
of them and you share the milk.
Totalitarianism – You have two cows. The
government takes them
both and denies they ever existed and drafts you into the army.
Milk is banned.
Capitalism – You have two cows. You sell
one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell them and
retire on the income.
Enron Venture Capitalism – You have two
cows. You sell three of
them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened
by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap
with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back,
with a tax exemption for five cows. The milk rights of the six cows
are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island company
secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all
seven cows back to your listed company. The annual report says the
company owns eight cows, with an option on one more.
