Using God's Name in Vain

Why do so many people today, especially the young use God’s name in vain?

In today’s world the more profanity one uses the more hip or cool they are, it has become acceptable and part of many people’s normal dialogue.

There is nothing off limits anymore. In today’s “live and let live” society profanity has become an acceptable form of speech. I’ve even heard members of the clergy use profanity from the pulpit.  Anyone who is offended or voices an objection is labeled an old fogie or right wing nut job. If anything is said we are labeled as a hypocrite.

It is obvious they never had a mother like I did, or if they did , they never paid attention. To be fair , most of us use profanity at one time or another, even if it is in our most private, or what we assume our most private moments. That doesn’t excuse it, but we are all human and we all do things it would be better if we didn’t do.

I have news for you, just because one is a christian or believes in moral values and ethics doesn’t mean they are perfect and they never do anything wrong. If one is perfect, they have no need to be crawling around on this crazy planet. We all should strive to become more perfect, it is a life long journey, but it comes in stages ,not all at once. If ever.

I remember when I was young , I challenged my mother as to why I shouldn’t use profanity. She explained to me that to use profanity was using God’s name in vain, and we should worship God, not profane him.

Calling someone a son of a bit&& was not only calling Jesus’s mother a nasty word but was also giving Jesus an unkind title as he was Mary’s son.

She also believed that to call another individual a “dirty” name was to insult God, since we are all children of God, his creation.

Like everyone else, my mother probably wasn’t perfect, but she was doing her best. The rest of us should be doing the same.

Calling someone a hypocrite only justifies it in your own mind that if someone else does it, it’s ok for you to do it. Does that make any sense? If someone else jumps off a cliff, are you going to jump off a cliff?

I’m sorry, but me or anyone else is not responsible for your actions. It often comes down to “Do as I say, not as I do.”

The excessive use of profanity in today’s society is just another indication of how far we have sunk morally  as a society. We have no one to blame, not the politicians, not big business, not our parents, the only one to blame is ourselves.

church and state

There has been much debate over the years about what the founding fathers meant about the separation of church and state. In recent times there has been much disinformation about how they actually believed, especially George Washington. In this short Ebook the author tries to explain how they actually felt.
