The Diet

Sarah and the
Diet

Sarah is terribly overweight, so her doctor
puts her on a diet. “I
want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and
repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you’ll
have lost at least five pounds.”

When Sarah returns, she’s lost nearly 20 pounds.

“Why, that’s amazing!” the doctor says. “Did you follow my
instructions?”

Sarah nods. “I’ll tell you, though, I thought I was going to
drop dead that third day.”

“From hunger, you mean?”

“No, from skipping.”

The Coke Machine

The Blonde and the Coke
Machine

A blonde was going to a soda machine and she
arrived there just before a businessman coming to quench his
thirst.

She opened her purse and put in 50 cents, studied the machine a little
and
pushed a Diet Coke selection. Out came a Diet Coke which she placed on a
counter by the machine.

Then she reached in her purse again and pulled out a dollar and
inserted
it in the machine. Studying the machine carefully, she pushed the button
for Coke Classic. Out came a Coke Classic and 50 cents change. She
immediately took the 50 cents and put in in the machine, studied it for a
moment and
pushed the Mountain Dew button. Out came a Mountain Dew.

As she was reaching into her purse again, the businessman who had
been
waiting patiently for several minutes now spoke up. “Excuse me, miss, but
are you done yet?”

She looked at him and indignantly replied, “Well, duhhhh! I’m still
winning!”

Farm Life in the 1950s

There was a time when life was a lot different and a lot simpler. Growing up
on a farm in the 50’s and early 60’s,we didn’t have all the modern
conveniences of today.
We may not have had all the comforts of life, but we did have something
that is missing today. We had neighbors that actually talked to each
other and helped when times were tough. We shared tools with our
neighbors and when our  farm was sold in 1963,we had shared the tools
for so long, we didn’t know who some of the tools actually belonged to. Three
days after Christmas in 1950, our house caught fire and suffered so
much damage it couldn’t be lived in. Insurance was unheard of in those
days ,so all the neighbors joined in , tore down what remained of the
old house, and built us a new one, all of this during one of the coldest

Indiana winters ever.

We were taught to be self reliant, at the beginning of my junior year in
high school, my dad suffered a back injury and was bed fast for  over a
year. We never asked for help, instead my seven year old brother and I
pitched in and did all the farm work , milking 30 head of cows twice a
day and doing all the other necessary work to sustain the family.
The following spring, dad was still disabled, so I put out all the crops
including hauling manure, plowing , tilling the soil and planting the
corn and soybeans. The farm was too small to sustain our cattle, our
pastures resembled a pool table, hence we were buying feed for them,
because of all the economic problems , it was becoming harder and harder
to purchase dinner for the cattle.

We had decided to get out of the farming business and the day we ran out
of feed for the cattle, the cattle  were sold in the afternoon. Divine
Providence.

Everything always works out for the best.Soon dad’s injuries healed, and he got a job in town , the farm was sold the next year.

I really didn’t mind, in fact it was a challenge, I was only glad to be
able to help my parents who never had an easy life, it was my way of
paying them back for all they had done for my brother and myself.

The Alligator Shoes

Sarah and the Alligator
Shoes

Sarah was on vacation in the depths of Louisiana.
She wanted a
pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant
to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking. After becoming
very frustrated with the “no haggle” attitude of one of the shopkeepers,
Sarah shouted, “Maybe I’ll just go out and catch my own alligator so I
can get a pair of shoes at a reasonable price!”

The shopkeeper said, “By all means, be my guest. Maybe you’ll luck
out
and catch yourself a big one!” Determined, Sarah turned and headed for
the swamps, set on catching herself an alligator. Later in the day, the
shopkeeper is driving home when he spots Sarah standing waist
deep in the water, shotgun in hand. Just then, he sees a huge 9 foot
alligator swimming quickly toward her. She takes aim, kills the creature
and with a great deal of effort hauls it on to the swamp bank. Laying
nearby were several more of the dead creatures. The shopkeeper
watches in amazement.

Just then Sarah flips the alligator on it’s back, and frustrated,
shouts out, “Dang it, this one isn’t wearing any shoes
either!”

Feminism is Destroying our Country

Every once in awhile one has an epiphany, it suddenly hit me last week while serving jury duty.  It was going to be a trial concerning domestic violence, a situation that occurs far to often in today’s society.

The defense attorney , a woman , was defending an African -American male accused of pushing his girl friend, a misdemeanor charge. Dancing around the race and gender ,issue the attorney asked in a roundabout way if gender or race would be an issue.

Suddenly , out of nowhere, a couple of women from the pool of possible jurors engaged in the typical diatribe about how society had gotten past the stereotype of women remaining barefoot and pregnant and their place was in the home.

It became apparent that in their minds at least, anyone who thought that was someone whose thought process was still in the 1950’s, and was very judgmental, narrow minded and sexist.

Being someone who has lived through all of this, that statement is preposterous.  I realize that years ago, many opportunities that are available for women today didn’t exist. During the last several years women have been able to have careers and enjoy other lifestyles than were previously unavailable to them.

Many of these opportunities came about because often times men were forced to step aside and denied jobs based on gender. This is a fact. During these times, if a man, or woman voiced an opinion other than the  popular thought of the day, they were shouted down and embarrassed, not only by friends and acquaintances, but by the media as well.

In reality, there is nothing wrong if a woman wants or needs to have a career. In today’s world many women need to have a career in order to support their children because of divorce and other factors. There is nothing wrong with this, if that is what they want to do then do it.

However, not all women want to work, the feminists need to realize that not everyone thinks like them or have the same desires in life. If a woman doesn’t want to work outside the home, or if a husband doesn’t want his wife to work, that doesn’t delegate them to Neanderthal status.

It is a matter of personal choice, and in many ways it is the natural order of things. In nature , men are the providers and women are the caretakers, that is the way we were designed. I know I am going to be criticized heavily for this and probably be called every name in the book by open minded liberals, but it is true.

In the process of trying to make everyone equal and the same, society has created a monster.  In today’s world, many men are afraid to be men, and women are afraid to be women. Often times people of both genders are lead to believe they have to accept a lifestyle they don’t want, just because it is the popular thing to do.

Being a parent, especially a mother, is the most important occupation in the world. A parent’s main responsibility is to  mold their children into responsible citizens of the future. Their job is to instill a value system that will lead them to a happy and successful life, this is a responsibility that shouldn’t be left to a baby sitter or daycare. Neither one, regardless of  how good and well intentioned they are, will teach your child the values and morals you have. Many of today’s world and national problems lead back to the fact that children are raising themselves.Maybe people need to decide if they want a career or children, if you want, desire, or need both, you must remember that raising your children comes first.

In today’s world, many opportunities are open to people of all social categories, it is your choice as to which one you choose, but I believe it is important to decide what one gives up to accomplish your goals, there are choices, but with choices come responsibility and sacrifice. Often times the high paying and prestigious careers are only attained by sacrificing something from your personal life, only you can decide if it is worth it.

Only you can decide, not some bureaucrat or news commentator. You have to decide if the sacrifices you are making is worth it, and if it comes as a detriment to your family and children. In the end family is still the most important part of our lives and children need both their parents.

But you are the only one who can decide if the sacrifice is worth it.

The_Wisdom_of_our_An_Cover_for_Kindle

There is an extreme shortage of common sense in today’s world, When looking back in history, I soon discovered this has always been a problem, Benjamin Franklin once said, ”Of all the senses, common sense seems to be the one that is used the least.” As obvious as it may seem, many seem to be totally oblivious to it. Most, if not all of the problems the world faces today could be solved if people would just sit back and think about what would seem to be the most obvious and simple solution to any issue. Often times people tend to overcomplicate the issues. I often think back to what my parents and grandparents believed and said, at the time I thought they were totally out of their mind and ignored it. I now wish I would have listened and followed their advice. It is now evident they were a lot smarter than we gave them credit for. Many times, in today’s world, the schools and universities can no longer be counted on to teach truth and values that will guide someone through life.

Decency: Where Did it Go?

Whatever
happened to decency? Has it gone out the window along with common sense
and respect for what others think and how they feel?

There
was as time in the not too distant past when people had respect for
what others felt and their opinions. Has political correctness destroyed
all of that?

I
understand that many people have different opinions about what is
acceptable in life, however there are, or should be limits. It has
become evident that we should condone behavior however objectionable it
may be , all standards of morality and dress should be thrown out the
window, all in the cause of being politically correct and being
considerate of others.

Since
when should we tolerate actions, words, and deeds of others when they
violate every law of humanity ever envisioned?  Why should actions of
others be tolerated only because they belong to some minority group,
when these same actions would not be accepted if an individual from
mainstream society performed them?

There
always have been and always will be standards of dress and actions that
should never lowered, to do so is to lower the whole of society to
unacceptable levels.

People
say it doesn’t matter how you dress or speak, it only matters what is
in your heart. This may be true to a point, however our outward actions
and appearance only reflects what is in our heart. You cannot be pure of
heart if you actions doesn’t reflect that.

Often
times people go to a house of worship dressed like they just returned
from a day at the beach, to me this shows a terrible disrespect for God.
Whatever happened to going to church in your Sunday best? Not saying
one should dress to the hilt, but dressing for the occasion would be
nice.

We
see people dressed in skimpy  clothing prominently displaying tattoos,
obviously dressing only to be defiant of everyone else who is within
viewing distance. This is inappropriate, if you want a tattoo, that is
your business, but to show disrespect for God and everyone else in the
church is unacceptable.

When
one is in an environment,  the appropriate actions is to dress as
everyone else does,if one can’t or won’t do that, maybe you should
rethink your position, maybe you don’t agree with anyone enough to be in
the group, and if you don’t respect them, how can you expect them to
respect you?

Why
is it appropriate for members of the gay community to march in family
type parades wearing thongs and other inappropriate attire, do straight
people do that? No. Most people have no problem with someone of a
different gender preference than our own, however, don’t ram it down our
throatsand subject our children to lewd behavior. You would be accepted
by many more people if you acted like normal people when in a public
forum. Don’t ask, don’t tell ,is still the best policy.

It
is none of your business what I do in the bedroom, and it is none of my
business what you do in yours, please don’t put it on public display.

Have
we become so lazy as a society that it no longer seems to make a
difference how we dress?Do many no longer have a positive opinion of
themselves that they no longer care what others think of them?

Have
we become so non judgmental that no one any longer has any opinion of
their own, are many so complacent that they see nothing wrong with any
action of others?

I hope not, people have to stand for something or they will fall for anything.

If you agree with me or would like to learn more, I would like for you to follow me on Kindle.I always welcome your comments and thoughts.

A Death in the Family

A Death in the
Family

Sarah went to work one morning upset. She
was in tears
and very upset.

After several minutes, her boss called her in his office
and asked, “What is wrong, is there something I can do?”

She replied “My mother died.”

The boss then said, “Why don’t you go home, you need some
time off.”

Sarah replied,” No, I would like to stay, it will help
me keep my mind occupied.”

The boss then replied, “OK, but if you should change your
mind, just let me know.”

The day went on and all was going fairly smooth, when all
of a sudden, the boss heard Sarah sobbing loudly.
He went out to her desk and asked, “What has happened
now?”

She replied, “My twin sister just called, and her mother
died too!”
