3 Pair of Glasses

A young girl was puzzled why the aging college professor needed three pair of glasses.
He explained, “I need one pair for distance, one pair to read, and one pair to find the other two pair.”

Mental Deficiency

A noted psychiatrist was a guest at a party and his host, Banta,
naturally broached the subject in which the doctor was most at ease.

“Would you mind telling me, Doctor,” Banta asked “how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?”

“Nothing is easier,” he replied. “You ask him a simple question which
everyone should answer with no trouble. If he hesitates, that puts you
on the track.”

“What sort of question?”

“Well, you might ask him, ‘Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?’

Banta thought for a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, “You
wouldn’t happen to have another example would you? I must confess I
don’t know much about history.”

Dominica

Your favorite CARIBBEAN store

Nestled between Guadeloupe and Martinique lies the island of Dominica.
Unspoiled, the island ‘s rich rain forest is home to many rare birds
including Sisserou and Jacquot parrots.

Dominica is also home to the last remaining Carib Indians, where they have been calling home for almost a 1000 years. When Columbus
attempted to land on November 3, 1493, the Caribs held him at bay , he
christened the island Dominica and continued northward without making
landfall.

Due in part to the lack of hospitality shown by the Caribs, the island
was largely ignored for the next 200 years. And as was the case in manyCaribbean islands, the French and British fought over them until the British gained control in 1805.

Gaining independence in 1978, the modern era for the island began.
After being  devastated by hurricane David in 1979,  progress began in
1980 as a new Prime Minister, Mary Eugenia Charles gained control.  She
worked tirelessly to promote the island’s agricultural industry while
protecting the island’s greatest resource, it’s untamed beauty .

Being a rain forest there are an unlimited array of attractions to be
found, besides the unlimited vegetation, one can visit Trafalgar Falls,
famous for its twin falls making it one of Dominica’s most famous
sights.

During our brief visit as a port o’ call on the Cruise ship Emerald
Princess we enjoyed an educational and entertaining  tour of the island.

Emerald Pool, a grotto fed by a waterfall and surrounded by vegetation
and the Botanical Gardens with thousands of Caribbean trees and plants
should be on any one’s list of “to do” ventures.

Bridge Ti TuGorge Dominica

path leading to Ti Tu Gorge

Our first stop was Ti Tu Gorge, after a hike past jungle vegetation and
a water pipe which supplies the island with water from the rain forest,
we came upon Ti Tu Gorge. It doesn’t look like much at first, just a
hole in the side of a hill with a steam of water flowing through it.
The guides informed us that the water was “refreshing”, that statement
turned out to be an understatement. The water couldn’t have been over
70 degrees and to a wimpy Floridian, that is darn cold!
After adjusting to the Arctic water, the swim began through the gorge
and toward the waterfall beyond. Approximately 20 yards into the cavern
I came to the waterfall, it made the whole swim worthwhile. Out of the
darkness of the cavern sprang an opening in the rocks and a beautiful
waterfall with the sun shining above it.
As I swam back  I suddenly realized why I had such difficulty swimming
in, there was such a current I hardly had to swim at all.

Screw's sulpher springs2 Dominica Sulpher Spring Dominica

Screw’s Sulphur Springs
Bouncing along the Dominican countryside one could only marvel at the beauty of the rain forest  and the abundant  wildlife .

Our next stop was to be Screw’s Sulphur Springs, Dominica’s answer to French Lick , Indiana
. Dominica is a volcanic island and as such it has many such springs
and thermal pools. Plunking ourselves into the warm waters, it was a
thoroughly enjoyable experience and when the time can, we found it
extremely difficult to enter the real world again. The transition was
made easier due to the fact we found fresh fruit awaiting us at the restaurant.

This is indeed an enchanting island, with the rain forest, tropical
vegetation and beautiful mountain scenery it surely is as close to
paradise as one can get in this world. Reluctantly it was time to make
our way to the ship and sail on to the next port.

As we boarded the ship and sailed from port, I couldn’t help but
notice a fog was engulfing the tiny island, the island had totally
disappeared in the fog band, suddenly a rainbow appeared and it was
reminiscent of the idyllic  Shangri-La.

A Woman named Rose

A couple had become forgetful in their old age and sought  a remedy by attending a special memory class where they were taught to remember things by word association. The husband was telling his neighbor how helpful the classes had been.

“Who was the instructor?” asked the neighbor.
“Oh,um,what was that name now?” said the husband. “What’s that flower that smells nice and has thorns?”
“A Rose?”
“That’s it,” said the husband triumphantly. He turned towards the house and called,”Hey Rose, what’s the name of the guy in charge of the memory class?”

Growing Old

Three elderly women were discussing the problems of growing old. One said”Sometimes I find myself in front of the refrigerator with a jar of mayonnaise in my hand and I can’t remember if I am putting it away or making myself a sandwich.”
Another said,” And I can trip on the stairs and not remember if I was walking up or down.”
“Oh, well, I don’;t have  those sort of problems , touch wood, said the third. tapping her knuckles on the table, before adding,”That must be the door , I’ll get it.

Elderly Couple

After stopping off for lunch on a day trip, an elderly couple had driven ten miles down the road when the woman remembered that  she had left her glasses at the restaurant.

Her husband was irritated at having to go back for them. “How could you forget your glasses?” He asked. “This is going to add an hour to the journey, the whole day is wasted.”

He was still complaining when they pulled up again outside the restaurant. As his wife got out of the car he grumbled,” While you are in there you may as well get my hat too.”

An Open Letter to Obama

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA —
Lou Pritchett

Dear President
Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and
unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me
because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You
scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League
education and  your upscale lifestyle and housing  with no visible signs of
support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative
years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an
American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or
met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military
experience, thus don’t understand it at its core.

You scare me
because you lack humility  and ‘class’, always  blaming
others.

You scare me because for over half your life you have
aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you  refuse to
publicly denounce  these radicals who wish to see America
fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the ‘blame
America ‘ crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me
because you want to change  America to a European style country where the
government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare
me because you want to replace our health care system with a government
controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer ‘wind mills’ to
responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale
reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American
capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of
living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use
‘extortion’ tactics against certain banks and
corporations.

You scare me because your own political party
shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending
proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to
or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent
people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are
both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media
gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me
because you demonize and want to silence  the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and
Becks who offer opposing, conservative  points of
view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over
governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a
second term I will probably  not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8
years.

Marching Towards Socialism and Marxism

This was written in response to a remark a reader made defending socialism and Obama.

Heading for Socialism

Sad but true, it’s a shame that millions of people had died in defense
of liberty, all the way from General Washington’s troops marching half
naked and barefoot through the snow in Jersey, to soldiers dying in
Iraq, and now we have come to this point in time when people welcome
Socialism and Marxism. That isn’t what they sacrificed for!

Twenty years ago Obama would have been gone
after the Rev. Wright fiasco. Now values mean nothing. Bill Ayres, a
confidant of Obama bombed the Pentagon and Capitol, what in the hell are people
like this doing having access to our president?

American’s have
lost their individualism, everyone wants something for nothing.(buy now , pay later). They
think that government is the answer, government has always been the
problem.  Our founding fathers tried to warn us against this.

People need to read the documents that our country is founded on. Our
country was founded on good moral and financial principles, if some one
today mentions those same principles, they are made out to be an idiot.
No wonder so many people are in financial and moral decay.

We are going the way of Europe and the rest of the world, America will
no longer be special and a place where someone can come to to make his
mark.

People say conservatives should move towards the center, That is what is so stupid, if conservatives move to the center, they
are no longer conservative, conservatism isn’t  a good old boy white club, why do
leftists always have to bring race into it.

In reality conservatives are inclusive, we’ve had women run for
Vice-President, blacks in high offices in several administrations,(Bush
had more blacks than Clinton)and supported equal rights more than the
liberals have.(The southern Democrats would have never allowed equal
rights to become law.) The main reason certain  people  are
attracted to democrats is because they are led to believe they will get
something for nothing, after the elections they are always
disappointed, and then they turn around and vote for the same people
that lied to them. Stupidity is defined as doing something over and over again and expecting different results.
Liberal values never last and they flat out don’t work, no matter how many times they are tried , they are always a failure.

Let’s see, which government program really works and is cost efficient?
Social Security, Medicare, Post Office(it only began to show a profit
when it was privatized).Public schools, Guess there is nothing in that list. When you
send $1.00 to Washington, you’re lucky to get $.25 in return.
The politicians really can’t be blamed, they really don’t know any
better and most are highly influenced by power and money. You can only
blame the people for re-electing the jerks they do, once in office, it
is pretty much a life time job.
Very few have conservative values, in this country a person gets
shouted down for being religious, paying his bills, trying to do the
right thing or anything else that makes sense. Until that changes, our
country will continue to go down the path it’s headed.

I hope people wake up soon.

Grenada, Spice Island of the caribbean

First discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1498 during his third visit to the new world, Grenada has become known as the Caribbeans “Island of Spice”. One of the world’s major producers of nutmeg, mace clove, cinnamon and cocoa, the fragrant aroma of spices seems to envelop the island”s emerald hillsides, beaches, and tropical forests.

The first permanent settlement on Grenada was established in 1650 by the French. During the 18th century the island was held alternately between the French and  English. After the Treaty of Versailles, the island was ceded to the British.

In 1974 the three island nation comprised of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique achieved independence, thus becoming one of the smallest independent nations in the Western Hemisphere.

It’s progress was halted in the late 70s when a left wing government seized control and put an end to free speech and many other liberties. After intervention by the United States and several Caribbean countries in 1983, order was restored and near the end of the year a new prime minister was chosen in their first free election since the unrest.
cinnamon Greneda plantation

The Grenadians are extremely grateful of the United States for coming to it’s aid in 1983 and defeating the leftist renegades and thus restoring order. Their gratefulness is expressed not only by the people but also much graffiti can be seen thanking the U.S. and it’s military.Grenade is now the ideal vacation spot , St. George’s exemplifies a picture perfect setting of an idyllic
Caribbean paradise. Most motels are family owned ,and no building can be taller than a coconut palm.Being the largest spice  producing island in the western Hemisphere, one should not visit without touring the island  and it’s many attractions. At the top of the list would be a spice Plantation, where cocoa , nutmeg , cinnamon and other spices were grown and harvested.
See how cocoa beans were dried and processed , observe cinnamon , nutmeg , banana trees as well as a wide variety of  jungle vegetation.

It is quite entertaining  driving along the narrow mountain roads, trying to navigate between the potholes while observing all the rain forest vegetation and beautiful scenery. Another beautiful observation point is Grand Etang Lake where one can enjoy a local drink, sandwich, and mountain views.
drying cocaGreneda plantation

Because the Grenadians observe many natural healing practices using their herbs and spices, as well as a diet of many of the natural foods found on the island, they have one of the longest life spans in the
Western Hemisphere, just a few years ago the oldest person in the world was living on Grenade reaching the ripe old age of 127.Situated 90 miles north of Trinidad, the island is only 21 miles long and 12 miles wide, and with a population of 107,000, 27,000 of which live in St. George’s it’s capital this island
is one that should be on any one’s list who travels to this part of the world.

Emerald Princess, Princess Cruise Lines

Sell Art Online

One of the newest cruise ships to sail the seven seas, the Emerald Princess is one of the classiest ships I have ever sailed on.

Your favorite CARIBBEAN store

Weighing in at 113,561 gross tons, it measures 946.8 feet long and
118.1 feet wide. How a ship of this size can only draw 28 feet of water
is beyond me.Carrying a crew of 1227 it easily accommodates  3573
passengers. It’s diesel electric engines can obtain a top speed of 23.5
knots while burning approximately 89,000 gallons of fuel per day. With
a total fuel capacity of 908,848 US gallons, it has a range of 4834
nautical miles.

With 12 water tanks on board the ship holds a total of 874,502 gallons
of water. Combine this with a total of 441,000 pounds of food and one
is insured of having a good time with a guarantee of 10 days of
excruciating  heartburn! (judging by some of my fellow passengers, the
ship surely must hold as much booze as water.)

While a person on ground level can see about 2.89 miles, the  same
person if standing on the 19th level would be able to see 15.2 nautical
miles.

Equipped with 18 lifeboats,6 tenders,2 fast rescue boats, and marine
evacuation systems, this ship is a safe as if one were sitting at home
watching TV.
Adding to that the 823 fire extinguishers, 450 CO2 extinguishers, 634
fire hoses extending 45,749 feet, and numerous fire doors watertight
doors, splash tight  doors and a ultra sophisticated fire detection
system makes this ship as unsinkable as they come.

Living on this floating hotel for 10 days was a total pleasure, based
in Port Everglades we embarked on a ten-day cruise to Aruba, Bonaire,
Grenada, Dominica, St. Thomas and Princess Caye. Following 2 days at
sea, we were eager to disembark in Aruba to stretch our legs and get in
some much needed shopping , (my wife’s words).

Next it was on to Bonaire, I had never been here before, and after a 3
hour tour and shopping, it was back on the ship with our next
destination being Grenada. Here we enjoyed a great tour where we
visited an herb plantation, a park and Fort Frederick. Darn, no time
for shopping.

Arriving on the island of Dominica, we had a tour arranged to the Ti Tu Gorge, Screw’s Sulphur Springs, and shopping.

All of this was just a warm up, next on the list was St. Thomas, the capital of shopping in the Eastern Caribbean!

One more day at sea and it was time for our final port of call,
Princess Caye, Princess Cruise Lines private island. After spending a
couple of hours on a floating raft tour, it was time to eat and shop,
then back to the ship and an overnight trip back to Port Everglades.

It was a really enjoyable cruise with only 2 problems, one was that we
had trouble getting our toilet to flush, and there was entirely too
much shopping!

Just kidding, it was a nice cruise and the store owners are a pleasure
to meet and deal with, I’m sure we acquired a lot of things that we
just couldn’t do without.
